My Catholic Spiritual Direction model is built on 3 points:
-God is real, and is the center of all reality
-He is love, and is the source of all things holy and pure
-He wants to have a real and personal relationship with you, no matter what you’ve done in the past
With these points in mind, let us take a look at what Catholic Spiritual Direction is.
At its core, Catholic Spiritual Direction is a three-way relationship between God, the directee, and the director. It is a conversation that evolves over time. Spiritual Direction directly involves a person’s relationship with God. What is the directee seeking from God? What is the directee perceiving as God’s will? There are elements of teaching, guidance, and friendship that are all involved. Catholic Spiritual Direction can change your life for the better.
I like to say there is no such thing as a typical spiritual direction session. Sessions last anywhere from 30-60 minutes. A session can be whatever the directee needs on their journey. Need to vent to me? Want to try a new spiritual exercise or read a book together? Discuss and pray together about something on your heart? Discern a big life change? It’s your session! Jesus is the true spiritual director: I am but a guide and facilitator.
